Inspirational spirit

Five years ago, Michelle lost her vision due to a brain tumour. Today, she is a valuable part of the team at Fairwinds Lodge Retirement Residence in Sarnia, ON. Michelle joined the Fairwinds team a year ago as a recreation assistant, and she hosts a wide variety of programs. She calls bingo using an iPad, which she navigates using voice-over technology; runs card games using brail cards; assists with weekly derby and brain game programs; and knits scarves to help the knitting club with their sales.
“Her spirit and [the] positive attitude that she brings to Fairwinds, despite the struggles that she faces, has really touched the residents,” said Tina DeBakker, lifestyle consultant at Fairwinds Lodge.

Life at Peninsula Retirement Residence

Our Farm-to-Table program fills our kitchens with fresh, local products that pop with flavour. And the warmth of our dining room servers, who know your name and your favourites, will be sure to make you feel welcome.

She holds cooking demonstrations, complete with delicious tastings, at least once a month. They are always well attended by fellow residents.

Following the Brushstrokes

Snow filters down through the branches and onto the head of a fluffy bird preparing to turn south for the winter. The painting, titled “First Snowfall,” was completed by Helen Banzet, 90, almost a year ago.

Life at Astoria Retirement Residence

At Astoria Retirement Residence, people and the warmth they share make all the difference. This is the sort of place where everyone knows your name and a good friend is never far from sight.

Farm to Table: Only the freshest ingredients

If your product doesn’t meet Kam Dhillon’s standards, she doesn’t want it, and as the Senior Executive Chef at both Peninsula and Pacifica retirement residences in Surrey, BC, her standards are hard to meet.

The Sailor Who Couldn’t Swim

The waves coming over the bow of the ship would often be over 15-feet high. For someone who couldn’t swim well, it was not a welcome sight.
