Why now is the best time to move into a senior living residence

“I should have moved sooner.”

We’ve heard this phrase a hundred times from the residents who live with us. Many times, seniors feel that retirement living communities are for “old” people, or that only sick seniors live in them, but the opposite is true. Senior living communities are for active and engaged seniors who want more freedom to do the things they love.

For seniors, living at home can be lonely and isolating. It can seem their entire day is filled with chores, shopping, cooking, cleaning, and home maintenance. By the time they finish and have a moment to do the things they love, they’re too tired to enjoy them. There are also some clear signs that it’s time to consider a senior living community.

At a senior living community, seniors only have to do the chores they want to. This leaves them more time to do the things they love — whether that’s reigniting old passions or exploring new hobbies.

Moving early also gives seniors more time to ensure their new home is right for them before moving in. It gives them time to thoroughly explore the senior living communities available to them, rather than being forced to make a snap decision in a moment of crisis. Waiting for a fall or an accident at home that makes the move to senior living necessary doesn’t benefit everyone. Instead, it makes an experience that should be joyful, stressful.

Senior living communities are a hub of life, and each has its own unique personality. Some favour intellectual topics, while another may be more artsy, or more outdoorsy. Every residence should have a full calendar of activities and events that residents can attend if they wish to, and those activities are usually geared to what residents have expressed that they enjoy. Senior living communities are an excellent place to make new friends and explore new hobbies. However, seniors are encouraged to spend their time as they please, some may prefer to borrow a book from the residence library to read in their suite, or go for a drive to one of their favourite local attractions.
